Frequently Asked Questions cat small animal hotel play and stay pet lodge p

Please take the time to read the following terms and conditions, which apply to both you and your pet during their stay at Whiskers and Furries Hotel.

To protect all our guests, we require that your rabbit is fully vaccinated against Myxomatosis and both RVHD1 and RVHD2 before boarding. RVHD2 is particularly concerning, as it can spread through the air, insects, birds, hay, and even clothing—and it often shows no symptoms before causing sudden death. Unvaccinated rabbits nearby are also at serious risk. For this reason, we ask that vaccinations are completed at least two weeks prior to boarding. Once your booking is confirmed, please send a clear photo of your rabbit’s up-to-date vaccination record via WhatsApp or email before your drop-off date.

Cats cannot be accepted for boarding without proof of up-to-date vaccinations against flu and enteritis. If you're unsure whether your cat’s vaccinations are current, please check with your vet before your booking.

Pets showing any signs of illness on arrival will not be admitted and must be in good health to board.

It’s not an issue if your fur baby isn’t neutered and is the only pet, as they won’t be socialising with other animals during their stay.  However, we don’t board pairs of un-neutered rabbits over 4 months old. This is because hormone levels typically rise around that age, often leading to fallouts or even fights.

If your cat or guinea pig is a solo pet, that’s absolutely fine. However, we do not accept un-neutered pairs for boarding.

For rabbits and guinea pigs, we provide a spacious area, cozy bedding, fresh fruit and vegetables, and farm-fresh meadow hay. However, if your pet is particular about their hay, feel free to bring their preferred type, as it’s essential they eat enough while away from home. Please bring your pet in a secure carrier—this is important for any potential vet visits and also helps us prepare them for collection day. We also ask that you bring their usual dry food to help avoid any tummy upsets during their stay.

For cats we kindly ask that you bring your own wet/dry food, as sudden dietary changes can be upsetting for a cat.

Our first step will be to contact you with an update, check if there’s any known history of the issue, and ask for your permission to take your pet to the vet if needed. If we’re unable to reach you, we’ll get in touch with your designated emergency contact.  We will also give your vet’s details to our vet so they can consult about your pet’s health and medical history if necessary.

We will then coordinate with the vet to arrange treatment for your pet. If possible, we’ll bring them back home with us and administer any necessary medications. However, if that isn’t feasible—such as in cases where the illness is contagious or your pet requires more care than we can provide while attending to our other guests—we will ask your emergency contact to collect your pet or arrange for them to stay with the vet for specialised care.

Throughout the process, we will stay in contact with you and keep you fully informed, always respecting your wishes regarding your pet’s care.

The cost of any veterinary treatment must be covered by you following the consultation or treatment, before your pet can return to our care. We do not charge for transport or our time. However, if a pet arrives for boarding and requires treatment within the first few days, or has a pre-existing condition that was not disclosed and needs veterinary attention, additional charges will apply.

Maintaining a clean and hygienic environment is essential for the health and happiness of small animals and cats. Here’s how we ensure our boarding space stays spotless, safe, and comfortable:

🧹 Daily Cleaning Routine

  • Spot Cleaning: Droppings, soiled bedding, and uneaten food are removed multiple times a day.
  • Fresh Bedding: Bedding is topped up or replaced daily to ensure dry, cozy enclosures.
  •  Food & Water: Bowls and bottles are washed and refilled with fresh water and food every day.
  • Pet-Safe Disinfectants: We use veterinary-approved, non-toxic cleaning products that are safe for small animals but tough on bacteria.

🌬️ Ventilation & Odour Control

  • Boarding areas are well-ventilated to prevent dampness and odours, and we regularly air out the space to keep it fresh.

🧽 Clean Equipment

  • All toys, hideouts, and accessories are disinfected between uses.
  • Litter trays, hay racks, and tunnels are scrubbed regularly to avoid buildup.

A clean environment not only keeps your small pets healthy but also makes them feel secure and content during their stay. At our facility, hygiene is a top priority—because your pets deserve the very best!

Absolutely, you will! We love sharing updates and will happily keep you informed with plenty of pictures and stories about what your little ones have been up to during their stay. We also enjoy posting photos and videos of our adorable guests on social media for our followers to admire—rest assured, no personal owner details are ever shared for privacy and security.
